Cables, Cords and Controllers

According to the Australian Design Rules, all trailers over 750kgs GTM (irrespective of the towing capacity or unladen mass of the tow vehicle) must have an effective brake system fitted. All brakes must be operable from the driver’s seat of the tow vehicle except for over-ride brakes.

The National Caravan and Recreational Vehicle Towing Guide

Today the car went in to have the required electrics attended to.  While the auto electrician is fitting a Red Arc Tow Pro brake controller, he will also install two Anderson Plugs.  One to supply uninterrupted power to the caravan’s electronic stabiliser, the other for supplying power to the fridge.  This second plug is interrupted power that will switch off (automatically) if too much power is draining from the car battery.  It’s amazing how these things are designed to ensure everything just works.

Although I have almost done my head in trying to understand what needs to be done and who to get to do it, Steve at Comfort Caravans (who has really looked after us so far) recommended we use Betta Car Electrics, so that’s where the car was left at midday today.  We will be able to collect it after midday tomorrow and everything will be good to go.

After dropping the car off – the most exciting thing yet – we had a look at our new “MINI” home and our first impression is WOW!  I could hardly wipe the cheshire grin off my face.

We absolutely love it, our mini home looks amazing – our colour choices really compliment each other – and we can hardly wait to start living our dream.

Footnote:  Even though I took photos of our mini home to share with everyone, I only had my iPhone with me and the photos are not great.  Tomorrow I’ll make sure I take my camera and will (try to) take better photos.
