Sandcastles

A pail of water, a pail of sand,

A basket full of shells,

Being overpowered by

An ocean full of smells.

Sunscreen and coconuts,

Cold Drumsticks made by Peter.

Short nights and long hot days,

There’s no need for the heater.

Little sun kissed freckled cheeks,

Now brightly glowing pink.

Sweaty pits and swaying palms,

I need another drink.

Flip flops and beach towels,

A huge big striped umbrella,

I quickly steal another glance

At that surf-life-saving fella.

By all means, just stay at work,

But on the other hand,

Would you not rather be

Building castles in the sand?

So run away, grab your cossie,

Meet me by the sea.

Bring some wine, we’ll pop a cork,

And snack on Jatz and brie.

      1. What Calen said when I sort her feedback prior to publishing: “I like it a lot! I love ANYTHING ocean and sand and shells. Is this about when you met Dean, by any chance?”

To which I replied: “The life guard was not my husband. Ha, ha – you made me laugh to realise that’s what you thought.”
