Chicken Parmigiana at the Tambrey Tavern

As it turns out, the Brey Chicken Parmi is:  The Brey Classic – done just how you like it – lightly crumbed chicken schnitzel smothered with ham, Napoli sauce and our three cheese blend. Served with chips and salad.

Chicken
The schnitzel was all breast, not so moist, but it wasn’t dry either.  It looks slightly burnt in the photo, but that was not the case.  The crumb was nicely cooked, tasted fine, but fell off the chicken due to the lashing of sauce.

There was too much for me to eat all of it, however – When I saw my meal I thought – Oh yum, a parmie shaped just like Australia, there’s a crumb that fell off to become a ‘mini’ Tasmania.

Sauce
The sauce was yummy!  Full of flavour and complimented the chicken perfectly.  The ham was good, but I didn’t think the schnitzel was ‘smothered’ in it.  There were a few slices, and they were just right.  The blend of three cheeses was new for me, and whatever they were, they were good!!

Extras
The salad was very sad, smothered in creamy dressing, and full of very sad sprouts of some variety I couldn’t quite pinpoint.  I had one half of a cherry tomato and although I removed the schnitzel off the salad and chips, the salad never recovered from the shock of being sat on.  I ate as much as I could before I decided I would rather not finish it, but that’s not to say that what I ate wasn’t good.

The chips were amazing, very amazing actually – fresh, crisp, and lightly salted with what I think may have been either chicken or vegetable salt.  They were so good, I ate them all and normally I don’t do that.

Rating Overall

This meal rates at 7.6/10, but I have decided to also review it holistically.

We arrived in Karratha at 3:30 pm after having left Exmouth at 7:30 in the morning.  We were tired, hungry, and just wanted to sit down somewhere cool and enjoy a nice meal.  We arrived just as the kitchen opened and placed our order, and then went to order a couple of drinks.  Dean had a beer and I ordered my usual non-alcoholic drink to discover that, as the designated driver, my drink was free.  In fact I could drink non-alcoholic beverages all night for free.

Barramundi battered in the Brey Pale Ale, hand cut chips and minted mushy peas. Served with a side of Tartare sauce.

Wow!  There should be more of that.

Dean had the Fish ‘n’ Chips and we were amazed at our meals when they arrived.  To be perfectly honest, we both mmmm’d and our way through the first three or four mouthfuls.

Twice a staff member approached to ask how our meals were, both times we couldn’t talk for eating, so simple nodded our approval.

So holistically, this meal as a whole was fantastic and for that it deserves an extra point, making this Chicken Parmigiana 8.6/10 overall.
