Our Saturday Night Visitor

Our Saturday Night Visitor – a Carpet Snake

Specifically, I think it’s a Morelia spilota mcdowelli, a subspecies of Morelia spilota.  At least, that’s what it looks like to me.

This is not the best picture, but it is the best picture I took.  You need to appreciate that at the time I was on the other side of the room having a full-blown nuclear meltdown.  Dean kept saying, “It’s only a carpet snake!”  “It’s not going to hurt you!”  “It’s not venomous!”  That didn’t matter one iota to me.

I’ve frozen that moment in time.

Dean and the Snake

This shows just how close that snake got to Dean as he was clearing away broken glass.

While Dean kept playing with it, I called the local Wildlife Rescue Service, and a lovely lady named Clare (of course she was lovely) told us a broom would help and it did.  As I continued to talk to her, Dean coaxed it outside and closed the front door.

By the way, he left the front door opened in the first place.

Fast forward 15 hours, and Mr Carpet Snake decided to pay us another visit.

Next time he shows up, he’ll be placed into a pillowcase and released into the bush – preferably an hour away.

  1. OMG precisely!! Dean what are you doing? – going head first is not a pretty way to go especially with a python – thank goodness you had a broom…….Take care!!

  2. Had the carpet snake got him, Dean could have had some nasty lacerations on his head! They may not be venomous, but they’re still wild creatures and should be treated with caution.
Fortunately all turned out well! *Phew!*
