The Waiting Game

It’s cool, but not cold,

It’s light, yet a little dark.

I’m standing waiting.

Once again in a game where

There are no solo players.

Waiting for the train – taken with my iPhone at 5:45 am

Yes, I’m back at work, but not in a way I ever imagined.  I was contacted by my old employer and offered what is called ‘a short term assignment’ until the end of the year.  With very little job prospects on the horizon, Dean and I weighed up the pros and cons – and I took the job.

It does, however, mean travelling to Brisbane and door-to-door that journey takes two hours by train.  And yes, that’s one way.  And yes again, I’m laughing about it.  But it’s through the generosity of a friend that allows me to stay in Brisbane Monday to Thursday (looking after her home and plants while she’s away) that taking the job was possible.

This means I travel ‘down’ on Monday morning, sleep in Brisbane for the week, and travel ‘home’ on Friday afternoon.  Dean drops me at the station early Monday morning and is there to pick me up late on Friday afternoon.

It’s not the first time we’ve been apart.  Dean used to travel away for work for a month at a time every second month over a period of five years, and I would often travel with work myself.  So even though we are accustomed to being apart, it’s been a long time since we last slept in separate beds.

But as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder, and we won’t be any worse for wear by the end of the year.

It was strange walking back into the office after so long – three years and 30 days to be exact (not that I was counting) – and my first two weeks have flown by.  With this work being finite, hopefully, that keeps up and the only waiting game I will play is that of waiting for the train each morning and before I know it, I’ll be back sleeping in my own bed every night of the week.

In the meantime, I’ll post when I can and try to keep in touch.  For now, I’m off to water my plants and see how much they’ve grown since last week 🙂  Stay tuned for some photographic updates.

  1. Oh my, there are surprises around every corner for you, aren’t there? I take it there was nothing else forthcoming on the horizon in the job Department? How about Dean, has he been able to find anything?

    1. 🙂 Hello my friend. Absolutely nothing on the horizon, neither for Dean, and hence I had to take the job and live away from home mid week for the next four months. At least it will put some money back in the bank. I hope to catch up on your blog soon, forgive me if it takes me a little while to do so.
